Write What You Know

in Uncategorized on 18/06/13

A few weeks ago it was unseasonably cold for the DC area. The temperature read 60, but it wasn’t a 60 I was used to anymore. Ten years ago, I might’ve been wearing flip flops in this weather that was windy and raining, but not anymore. I still have that nasal-y Chicago accent, but sadly, I have lost my tolerance… View Post

Summer Reading Journals

How about a Summer Reading Journal? I made some for my girls. And for your kids too, if they’d like. There’s a place to make bookmarks. And a place to store words that are funny, descriptive, hard to understand, and words that should be used over and over again. There are places to write book reviews, draw pictures, and write about… View Post

These Are The People In Your Neighborhood

About a month before Jesse and I moved to Washington DC, we were in Australia with my brother, scuba diving and picking up phrases like, “Good on ya.” One night we watched a movie whose name escapes me but it was about a guy who moved to a brand new area, knowing  no one. In a voice over he wonders… View Post

{ENJOYING} Picking Hadley up from school in the afternoons. We read and draw while we wait for carpool to begin. Sometimes friends walk up to the window and we chat for awhile…. View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

Have a look around and be sure to subscribe to the blog. Thanks for stopping by!
