Where I’ve Written: A List

in Uncategorized on 08/02/22

At the Barnes and Noble at Washingtonian Center after Jesse came home from work.

At the Starbucks on Connecticut just before Chevy Chase, Maryland becomes Washington DC.

At a kitchen table turned desk. I set it up in the girls’ playroom – my journals and books shared a bookshelf with the girls’ toys.

At Bus Boys and Poets on Langston Hughes’ birthday.

On Packard driving to a friend’s house – one word on my hand.

In a coffee shop in San Juan on a napkin.

In church on a bulletin in the margins

In the car on a parking receipt.

Next to a fire pit on a post-it note left in my jacket.

On the back of a grocery list while I looked for eggs and nectarines.

Not included: the hundreds of notebooks, each page a sliver of evidence of a path created; a life forming and reforming.

This was written in my “From Inspiration to Habit” course. This week we are paying attention to not just what inspires us to write, but to take note of all the places we already have written. (Waitlist for the next round here.)

The church bulletin – yes! I do that too.

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.
