Around here I’m taking pictures of myself in the WCA Kindergarten bathroom to show off my MFA sleeves and whatever it is you call that purple and white thing I’m wearing. High school graduation is all about the kids. It’s not about what the teachers are wearing. Don’t be showing off. Listen to the speaker and pay attention to his power point presentation. Stop thinking about what you’re wearing.
Around here my girl did an author research project on her mama. Don’t be too impressed, her first choice was JK Rowling. Her teacher said no, so Hadley said, “Fine, I’ll do my mom.” Did you know I’m going to be an author? It’s true. I am. I’ll tell you more about it later.
Hadley’s report states that I use my imagination to add sparkle to the story I’m trying to tell. That seems shiningly accurate to me.
Around here we’re losing teeth and thrilled to realize we look like Nanny McPhee before they fall.
Around here the tooth fairy is working hard.
Around here we’re trying to pack, and the girls are all for helping.
First though, there needs to be a proper sign.
Don’t stop danc’n’, y’all. Can’t stop, won’t stop. That’s what I always say.
Around here we’re walking to our final ballet performance. “Maybe I’ll do ballet later. I wanna try softball now,” she tells us.
Around here I say, “You do whatever you want to do Miss Harper, and I will be there to watch.”
Around here we’re enjoying late nights playing with the neighborhood kids. I’ve written a bit about how glad I am to be able to teach and write and be a mother because I didn’t think I could (or should) do all those things. I didn’t imagine myself doing them and in that sense, my life has been a nice surprise. However, I have imagined summer nights with kids running in and out of the house, and dinner being made, and music playing all the while. When I thought about being a mother, I hoped for evenings like that. This is just to say I’m glad for the things that happen I don’t imagine, and I’m glad for the things that become real that were once dreams.
Finally, around here, my friend Becky and I are selling our Reading Journals on Amazon! Here’s the link for elementary, and here’s the link for middle school. COMING SOON – a reading journal for adults!
And if you’re looking for a fabulous book for the summer, I recommend Paula Huston’s new book, One Ordinary Sunday. Here’s my review of it on The Englewood Review of Books.
