A Note to Butler’s Orchard

in summer, writing on 27/06/13

This is just to say

we have eaten

a few blueberries

from the hedge

instead of dropping them into buckets

to be weighed

Forgive us

we were young

and feeling young

and the blueberries

were the size of grapes

warm and dark blue

from the sun

(Inspired by “This is just to say” by William Carlos Williams, Butler’s Orchard, and blueberries.)

I was afraid I was going to get into trouble and that’s why I didn’t put this link on their FB page. I’m nothing if not a strict rule follower in every area of my life.

A great post, with great pictures.
Do you eat all your blueberries plain? Or did you do some baking?

Thanks, Anita. We ate most of them plain, but I made some blueberry muffins as well. I love blueberry muffins.

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.
