Things I Loved In February

in Uncategorized on 27/02/14

The month of February has been kind of grey and snowy and cold, but one afternoon this month the girls and I walked around Washingtonian Center to eat cupcakes and pick up some treats at Charming Charlies.  What is it that Jem says to Scout when she’s nervous about stepping on Boo Radley’s porch?  Something like, “I swear Scout, you… View Post

Standing Out Here For Practice

in Uncategorized on 25/02/14

On Friday Harper and I were working in the sunroom for a chunk of the day.  She was painting and I was thinking about Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and working on putting together some bookmarks for kids for an upcoming reading event at Hadley’s school. I have to write a paper on Dillard’s book, and it has to do with… View Post

Reading Workshop Activity

We’ve had so many snow days this year that it looks like summer is going to be shortened due to make up days.  That’s annoying but I’m not here to talk about that.  I’m here to discuss what to do with the school age kiddies when at the time you’re still in your pajamas hoping to pour yourself another cup… View Post

What’s In My Purse

in Uncategorized on 18/02/14

This post was inspired by another one of the A Beautiful Mess blog posts.  It’s a terrible picture but I wanted to get my red boots in there because they’re red boots!  What was in my purse at the time this photo was taken is the following: a chevron patterned pencil pouch that I carry with me everywhere I go,… View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.
