{FOUND} out that the way to get from West Virginia to Ohio is to cross this here bridge. The girls and I drove home from Raleigh last week and I’ve been thinking about the grace there is in a bridge that helps me get from one state to the next. Seems to me a sturdy bridge with a beautiful view… View Post

Putting in the Sky

Part of my job is to inventory books, which, I suppose sounds dreadfully boring, but for me it is quite sacred to hold a story in my hands and enter the ISBN, Title, and Author into the school’s system. It feels like a birthright, I think. It’s also terribly tempting to take a minute, or the equivalent of my lunch… View Post

Pink Lip Gloss

in Uncategorized on 27/03/17

Hadley is wearing lip gloss. She’s wearing lipgloss and at times it looks as though she’s kissed a frosted pink donut, and left that donut naked. No glaze. No sprinkles. Just a sorry piece of fried dough. As I’m pondering how to go about talking to Hadley about subtlety and the chastity of reapplication, I remembered a Wednesday afternoon in… View Post

February: Found|Read|Tried|Wrote

{FOUND} I found a lot of things this month: a library with a coffee shop in it AND a fairy door (Ann Arbor, you’re so charming I could just kiss you), a new job (I’m an At-Risk Literacy Specialist in the Ypsilanti Public Schools), and DIMO’S. Dimo’s is what I want to talk about. You got your BLT sandwiches, your… View Post

The daylight lasts a little longer each day, but 3:30-5:30 time period still feels dense and not so much dreadful, but like something needs to begin but it won’t because something else needs to rest, but there’s no time to rest. It’s not like in the summer when these hours are still thick with heat and sunlight and you know… View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

Have a look around and be sure to subscribe to the blog. Thanks for stopping by!
