Family of Foxes

in Uncategorized on 30/03/20

My friend Cara has baby foxes living under her porch. I suppose that sounds like a problematic first sentence, but I’ve stood on her porch, and it is well off the ground, plus, the view is epic. Think Terabithia. Nobody would fault a fox for setting up a home in this place. I mean to write something about the adorable… View Post

All The Pretty Highlights

in Uncategorized on 25/03/20

This happened a few years ago, but it seems relevant for today. Here’s a story that might serve as a warning, that I hope brings on a laugh, and also, that will encourage all of us to keep using what happens to us as good soil for stories.  Today is the day the wheels go up for Santa Fe and… View Post

The State of Things

I am listening to Harper FaceTime her friend. They’re taking turns playing their brass instruments for each other. “When this thing ends,” Harper says, “the first thing I’m gonna do is,” and the two of them share all of what it is they’ll do that they can’t do now. Hadley is in her room on a Zoom call with her… View Post

My New Year’s Resolution came from Nicole Gulotta’s book Wild Words. She writes that she wants to think of her life as poetry, and like a poem, I loved the wish before I understood it. Like all resolutions, it hasn’t been easy to figure my life as poetry. Perseverance and I think imagination must come into play. There must be some… View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.
