Overwhelmed and Blessed

in Uncategorized on 22/01/13

A good friend of mine has a blog that records the life of she and her husband and their three beautiful little girls.  At the end of one post she wrote that they are tired and overwhelmed at times, but thankful and blessed too.  This seems like a perfect way to describe parenthood and if I were to give anyone… View Post

Girls’ Week

in Uncategorized on 15/01/13

It was just us girls last week.  Jesse was away talking smack about hurricanes so Hadley, Harper and I kept ourselves busy doing all sorts of fun things. (By the way, “Talking Smack About Hurricanes” was the exact title of the conference.) If you’re ever unsure who  drew which picture, here is a signature Harper detail: she makes Hadley small…. Wearing: Apparently I have the same style tastes as a six year old girl.  Here we are wearing red corduroys.  You can say something when I start to think that those tulle tu-tu skirts all the four year olds are wearing might be an outfit option for me, too.  This might happen. I love tulle. You know about my wedding dress, right?… View Post

Lemme Just Go Ahead And Lead This Clas

in Uncategorized on 08/01/13

Hadley and Harper go to a Zumbatomic class at a local yoga/pilates/zumba studio every week.  I’m not sure how it differs from regular Zumba but I’ll tell you what: it’s 60 minutes of pure F-U-N and I have a very difficult time not joining in.  Hadley would absolutely kill me if I even so much as bop my head, however…. Around Here

in Uncategorized on 20/12/12

I know in the last post I wrote about a writing goal of mine, and I am writing but I’m not writing well.  When I’m not writing well I do things like stamp tissue paper.  I also bake.  Those blueberry muffins?  I made those after I stamped tissue paper.  Oh my goodness, they are so good.  My writing… View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

Have a look around and be sure to subscribe to the blog. Thanks for stopping by!

When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth k When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth knock out during a baseball game. I was in the dugout, trying to make a butterfly in the dirt with my shoe. The batter, who’d hit not just a home run, but a grand slam, came running in and everyone cheered and so did I because I’d gotten really good at reading cues for when a good thing happens in sports. I even attempted a high five, and somehow I knocked my face into her batting helmet, thus spending the good part of that weekend summer day in the dentist’s office getting a root canal.

No teeth were lost in this latest incident, but I was lost in a bit of imagining on Sunday when I tripped and fell on Packard while running. I look like I’ve been in a bar fight and my shoulder looks similar to how Wesley’s looked after being attacked by an ROUS.

But I’m going into work today, and when I told my boss I’m nervous about how I look she said, “It’s OK because you have a story,” and if that isn’t the best thing you could ever say to me, I’m not sure what is.

So, here I am with a story. Thanks to all my friends and family who’ve been so kind and keeping me laughing.
