The Next Big Thing: My New Project

in Uncategorized on 20/11/12

This post is part of a blog chain that I am participating because the lovely Lindsey Crittenden invited me to. If you are at all thinking that you’d like to try your hand at Creative Nonfiction, take this class.  You won’t be sorry.  Or, if you are looking for a great book to read, may I suggest The Water Will… View Post

Thankful for Four Years Old

in Uncategorized on 13/11/12

Harper was born around ten in the morning, and, four years later, on November 9, I was sitting in her preschool classroom listening to her teacher tell me how she’s doing in school. Our conference was at ten and this seems significant but don’t worry, I will not weave in the story of her birth in this post.  I… View Post

Thankful: Part Two

Thankful for: a Halloween parade at Hadley’s school just like when I was a kid, being able to stay for the party afterwords (I stood in the classroom watching 17 five and six year olds eat cupcakes, cheetos the size of my forearm, candy, and cookies.  Nothing is scarier than the potential craziness that would erupt any minute). Friends to… View Post

Thankful: Part One

I like to tell you stories. I like that you come here to read my stories.  This month, though, I think I might try something different because I’m finding that the work of writing annotations and creative nonfiction for grad school is taking up a big chunk of my storytelling skills.  I want to record what goes on in the… View Post

A few years ago (I can’t believe I can start a post about my children that begins with, “a few years ago.” Really? Have I been a mother more than a few years?), during a Nor’easter (is that the right way to spell it? This type of weather seems new to me although we’ve been in the Mid-Atlantic longer than… View Post

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

Have a look around and be sure to subscribe to the blog. Thanks for stopping by!
