Last weekend was Concordia’s Graduation and Monday bunches of flowers were left and placed all over campus. We have two bouquets in our office.
I added some postcards with quotations from authors put into artistic images on my whiteboard in my office. I think this would be such a fun idea to do for my books. Is that arrogant? “Hey guys, sending you a postcard that I designed and also using words that I wrote. YOU ARE WELCOME.”
My essay for Coffee+Crumb’s Summer Collection was due on the 20th, and it was a struggle bus for many weeks. “What am I even trying to say?!?!” I screamed and cried (my family loves me during this phase of writing).
And then, Twilight. That’s right, my CallieFeyen.com friends. Sometimes you just need a vampire to help out with the story. Also, I write about my colonoscopy in this essay, so please look forward to this fine, literary piece of writing. I’m sure it’ll put me on the map.
My boss keeps chickens, and not in an “urban I’m into canning and I keep chickens” kind of way. She has sheep and a whole mess of other E-I-E-I-O animals. She asked me the other day how I have any time to write, and I looked at her and said, “Because I don’t have cows.”
Anyway, she brings in eggs for us, and have you ever had a farm fresh egg? Goodness gracious, it’s the color of sunshine and happiness. We’re never buying eggs at the grocery store again. I just bring in my empty carton with some cash in it and the next day I have eggs. It’s all just a very clean version of Breaking Bad.
Read:
- “Chance It,” and “Pentecostal Ladies” by Dave Malone
- “Ulysses,” by Alfred Lord Tennyson (thanks to Megan Willome and also part of this poem made its way into my C+C essay, so what I’m saying is this is a masterpiece)
- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking pgs 1- 160 by Susan Cain (WHERE has this book been all my life?!?!)
- Emily’s Quest pgs 115-150 by LM Montgomery
