A bouquet of sunflowers sits in a purple vase in a window of a brightly lit bedroom. The red, pink, and orange duvet is taught across the bed, which holds several matching oversized pillows. Placed at an angle that faces two windows – one overlooking the Chicago skyline, the other providing a view of the numerous stores and restaurants on Division – is an old, weathered desk. The desk is certainly the most inviting part of the room with plenty of space for reading books and magazines, writing letters, or gazing out of the windows and daydreaming.
To the left of the desk are numerous jars of pens, pencils, and markers. In the Chicago Cubs cup are all fine point Sharpies – black, green, and blue. About a dozen number two sharpened pencils sit in a rustic yellow coffee mug; their leads pointing to the ceiling. Tied to the mug with brown craft ribbon is a handmade tag that compliments the mug’s color. In very neat handwriting is a quote about buying number two pencils instead of roses from the movie, “You’ve Got Mail.” The third coffee mug is sky blue. The handle’s been chipped off exposing patches of white, and a yellow pin brags, “I survived my bachelorette party at Polyesters” hangs off the edge of the mug. The mug holds ballpoint pens – thick Bic pens from hotels around the world. They are the only pens the writer will use.
