Callie Feyen

Offerings

in Uncategorized on 27/08/21

It is 2,475 degrees outside but the other day on a walk with Corby, the wind blew, and the leaves on the ground made that scratching noise they do when autumn is on its way, and I admit I’m one to push boundaries so it probably comes as no surprise when I write that suddenly I wanted to sharpen all the pencils and make sure everyone has the best stapler and three hole punch the world has to offer.

There are two boys outside playing frisbee as I write this and I want to throw open the window, and in the voice of E. Scrooge after he realizes what a donkey he’s been scream, “NEXT WEEK AT THIS TIME YOU’LL BE LOOKING AT YOUR SYLLABI! GLORY BE, WE ARE ENTERING INTO THE SEASON OF POST-ITS AND PAPER CLIPS! MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!”

‘Tis time for learning, and processing, and reflecting. It’s time to luxuriate in a thought or a memory, I think. Maybe write a thing or two.

Callie Feyen is one of those magical teachers whose influence stays with you long after her tutelage is over. When I landed in her poetry workshop, I was grappling with crippling self-doubt in my call as a writer, even after years of writing and editing professionally. Studying and writing poetry taught me to cultivate a sense of play when I face the blank page. With Callie’s guidance and encouragement, I learned to trust my writer’s voice again. I am deeply grateful for this course.” — Erin S.

“Callie has a gift for creating an environment that is encouraging, challenging, and inspiring. I felt safe to take creative risks and as a result, I was so happy with the work I was able to produce during this course. I came away feeling more inspired to write than I have in quite some time.” — Lindsey Cornett

Writing Workshop, Book Coaching – I work with small groups of writers, and we move from book concept to full manuscript. One-on-One Coaching

From Inspiration to Habit – A 5-week writing course I designed to offer writers a few tools to help you as you pursue your writing dreams. Each week you’ll get a story I wrote paired with a writing exercise that will provide a way into the stories you need to tell. These are exercises I’ve used myself, with the students I taught, and with other writers I coach. They can be used every time you write, or you can pick and choose as you find which ones work for the project you are working on.

“My creative fire was nearly put out by the day-to-day waters of life. It had been far too many years since I allowed myself to follow the dream buried in my heart. Like a candle with no wax left to burn, my flame was fizzling, and I didn’t see a match nearby. On a whim, I signed up for Callie’s Inspiration to Habit course and it was just the thing I needed to spark a fire once again. Callie helped me find my voice and get back to following my heart’s desire to write.” – Crystal Rowe

Also available, my Manuscript/Essay/Chapter Critique.

“I’m so filled with joy and gratitude whenever I get feedback on my work, but the caliber of critique and thoughtful, insightful feedback from Callie Feyen are next level! I feel so challenged, inspired, motivated, and seen!”  – Annie Marhefka

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth k When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth knock out during a baseball game. I was in the dugout, trying to make a butterfly in the dirt with my shoe. The batter, who’d hit not just a home run, but a grand slam, came running in and everyone cheered and so did I because I’d gotten really good at reading cues for when a good thing happens in sports. I even attempted a high five, and somehow I knocked my face into her batting helmet, thus spending the good part of that weekend summer day in the dentist’s office getting a root canal.

No teeth were lost in this latest incident, but I was lost in a bit of imagining on Sunday when I tripped and fell on Packard while running. I look like I’ve been in a bar fight and my shoulder looks similar to how Wesley’s looked after being attacked by an ROUS.

But I’m going into work today, and when I told my boss I’m nervous about how I look she said, “It’s OK because you have a story,” and if that isn’t the best thing you could ever say to me, I’m not sure what is.

So, here I am with a story. Thanks to all my friends and family who’ve been so kind and keeping me laughing.
