Whenever I’m having trouble picking out an outfit, which is most days, Jesse will tell me, “Rule of three.” This means I pick one thing – a shirt, a skirt, a pair of pants, even jewelry, and figure out three outfits to pair with that item. Usually that sparks some creativity and helps me climb out of my rut. (Sometimes it doesn’t, and then I head to Target. Don’t tell Jesse.) The idea is, there are a number of ways to wear our clothes, and part of the fun in getting dressed is finding a new way to wear something, and in turn, perhaps a new way to see ourselves.
The same idea can be applied to the stories we read, and thank goodness. Part of the fun in reading is learning how we locate ourselves in the story, and then sharing that with each other.
And so it is with Twirl. Want to dress up the book? Or dress yourself up with the book? Take a picture and share it with us. Want to join a book club and discuss the story? There are two going on in March. One here, and one here. (Join both! The people that make up both of these groups are witty, thoughtful, and so much fun.) Feel like writing about the book? The publisher has written five “Write Your Life” prompts inspired by Twirl that you can work on as you read the book. Sign up for them here.
In the meantime, thank you to so many who’ve purchased the book, who’ve promoted the book, who’ve written such kind reviews on Amazon, and who’ve written to me to tell me how the book is impacting you.
Now if you’ll excuse me. I don’t know have a thing to wear. It’s time for me to figure out what stories can be found with what’s in my closet. (Or maybe go shopping.)
