Last week when I was on the Chasing Creative podcast, I talked a bit about how I cultivate reading and writing habits with Hadley and Harper. You can read about my book buddies idea here. I normally do that in the summer as there isn’t much time for it during the school year. However, I like to have the girls keep track of the words and sentences they are reading, and this very easy word wall does the trick.
Did I get the title from this site, you ask? Why, yes! Yes, I did. We learn and steal from the best here in the Feyen household.
Hadley and Harper read for a half an hour, and after they have read, they copy down one sentence from their reading that they loved.
Harper laughed so hard when Winky said, “You is killed him,” in Harry Potter #4, and I have to say that it was quite a reprieve to hear her giggling because this was a pretty intense part. Kuddos to JK Rowling for brilliantly weaving in humor when we are afraid. That is my favorite kind of writing.
Maybe someday the girls will tell me more about why a girl was hesitant to open a book for fear of ruining the beauty of a moment, or why Hadley and Harper both took note of the sky in their stories. For now though, those sentences are captured on the wall of letters that are very, very good.

This is so wonderful! It will be a magical journey to see what the girls come up with as they get older.
By the way, your comment about needing a headshot soon, from an older post, was not lost on me. I am looking forward to finding out what that means!
