Sometimes Hadley drops us notes.  Here are some of my recent favorites:

This was slipped under our bedroom door around 5:45 in the morning.  It was nice that she left a couple of lines to write a response.

Here’s a note she wrote during a timeout.

District 2-20131127-00571

In case you can’t read it: “Dear Daddy, People can be mean sometimes but that doesn’t mean they go to jail or timeout. ~Hadley” (Note the squiggly before her name. I have no idea where she got that from.)

I think this one is my favorite. Hadley had a conundrum with her sister who was snoring at bedtime.  She came out once to discuss the problem and Jesse went in to see if turning Harper over might stop the snoring.  A few minutes later, a paper airplane came flying out of the girls’ room.  Here’s what it said:

“I can still hear her, but I am used to this volume.”  I think that’s a great slogan for motherhood.

These are so great! Thank goodness she has you for a mom instead of me so that this stuff will actually get saved for future reading! You guys must have such a blast being her parents. She is such a smart cookie.

I take no credit. It’s these nice phones with cameras on them. I click away and come up with a post when I have enough of them. 🙂 With Hadley, it doesn’t take too long.

These are hilarious! Can I use “can’t read the alarm clock” as an excuse to be late for work?

Yes, Keri, I think that’s a fine excuse. 🙂 My favorite part of that note is the “two problems” part. Just two. Oh, to only have two problems at 5:45 in the morning.

I think that Hadley is a genius. Either that or you’ve birthed another Seinfeld.

LOL! Your kids are brilliant. These are hilarious. I am with you; the last note is the best. “I’m used to this volume.”

wait. where is jesse’s squiggly? i have to say, i am *loving* the kid-writing-notes stage. i’m impressed you woke up for the note at 5:45. i don’t think i would have… which would have resulted in many, many more notes i’m sure.

Hi! I’m Callie. I’m a writer and teacher living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I write Creative Nonfiction, and in my oldest daughter Hadley’s words, I “use my imagination to add a bit of sparkle to the story.” I’m a contributor for Coffee+Crumbs, Off the Page, Makes You Mom, and Relief Journal. My writing has also been featured on Art House America, Tweetspeak Poetry, Good Letters, and Altarwork, and in 2014 I was one of the cast members of the Listen To Your Mother DC show.

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University, and I am working on my first book that will be published through TS Poetry Press.

When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth k When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth knock out during a baseball game. I was in the dugout, trying to make a butterfly in the dirt with my shoe. The batter, who’d hit not just a home run, but a grand slam, came running in and everyone cheered and so did I because I’d gotten really good at reading cues for when a good thing happens in sports. I even attempted a high five, and somehow I knocked my face into her batting helmet, thus spending the good part of that weekend summer day in the dentist’s office getting a root canal.

No teeth were lost in this latest incident, but I was lost in a bit of imagining on Sunday when I tripped and fell on Packard while running. I look like I’ve been in a bar fight and my shoulder looks similar to how Wesley’s looked after being attacked by an ROUS.

But I’m going into work today, and when I told my boss I’m nervous about how I look she said, “It’s OK because you have a story,” and if that isn’t the best thing you could ever say to me, I’m not sure what is.

So, here I am with a story. Thanks to all my friends and family who’ve been so kind and keeping me laughing.
