Starting: a new essay. My mentor this year wants me to try an essay that does not have me in it. Like what Ira Glass does in This American Life. He has the coolest job, doesn’t he? That’s what I want to do when I grow up. Anyway, I’m working on writing something about a sculpture at the University of Notre Dame.
Getting ready: for the girls to start school and for my semester to begin. Over vacation last week I got out different pens and a piece of paper and wrote down all the things I need to get done on a day-to-day basis. I realize that some of you will find humor in a phrase like “over vacation I thought about work” but this is what I do for fun. My Uncle Greg once asked me what I did to relax and I said, “I plan stuff.”
Selling: sort of new products in my Etsy shop. Some of you have requested extra pages for your journals, so I put up the Picture Pages, Problem Pages, and Book Reviews for you to download. You should only have to do it once and get as many copies as you like.
Excited about: a Yoga and Creativity class I’m teaching again with my friend Shannon. I’ll write more on this later (I think) but if you’re in the Maryland area, our first class is free and we’d love for you to come check it out. We’ll be at Opus Yoga on Wednesdays from 11:30-12:45.
Looking for: a new place to do my writing. When the girls are in school I can work at home but I need a good cafe at night, preferably one that serves good coffee, and good food and wine/beer. And nobody talks to me. And the music is good. I’m positive I’ll write pages and pages if all these things happen.
My mentor told us in Santa Fe that writing is like prayer. Someday, those words will be the basis for why I continue to blog, but that’ll be a story for another day. Until then, perhaps there are some prayers in these past posts. Thanks for reading.
Five Years Ago: My very first post on wasps. Good gracious that picture at the end? I can barely look at it without throwing up. I was practically nine months pregnant with Harper when that happened! You can’t shake a stick at that kind of bravery, folks.
Four Years Ago: One of the many ways Hadley has outsmarted us. I’m so afraid for high school.
Three Years Ago: Gangsters.
Two Years Ago: Awww, you guys, it’s the Target one! Where I call an elderly lady a jerk? And Harper loses her balloon? This one’s a classic.
One Year Ago: Hadley tries to convince Jesse to buy her a pet. The pictures are the best.

Sounds like your residency was inspiring! Mine was too. My vacation was also inspiring. I have so much inspiration and yet NO STINKIN TIME to act upon any of it. And my blog is a sad, neglected place right now. Sending you a new piece here in a minute– enjoy your day!

Totally agree. So many ideas and so little time to even draft a few thoughts down. I’m excited and anxious to get this semester started. Can’t wait to read what you sent!

Hey, Callie… I haven’t tuned into your blog for a while but here I am and here I am amazed all over again by the immediacy of your voice, your style, your wit, your whatever it is that makes me smile and say yes yes yes this woman has got “it.” If you see me stealing this “Right Now” structure for a blog post, well… I’ll link to your website. Cheers.

Thank you very much, PJ, for your kind words. I really appreciate it. And as for the “Right Now” idea, no need to credit me. I stole the idea from other bloggers. It’s a nice little prompt for when you want to write a post but don’t know exactly what to write about. I added the “archive” section at the end because it’s fun to see what was going on in previous years, as well as how (hopefully) my writing has grown. Thanks for stopping by!

You’re right. Ira Glass does have the coolest job. And his work is top notch.
I’m sure you’ll rise to the essay challenge.

Thanks, Anita! I’ll do my best.
