Writing to the Princesses

in Uncategorized on 07/03/13

A couple of days ago, Harper sat down to write Cinderella. Folks, Cinderella has replaced the dinosaurs. All the dinosaurs that ever were are no match for Cinderella.

Anyway, she sat down to write a letter to the old maiden then realized she can’t write.  So she asked Hadley for help.  “You write the letter and I’ll decorate it.”

Hadley thought this was an OK plan and obliged.

“Dear Cinderella,” Harper began, “I love you very much. We watch you on TV.”  And then, “You and I are both very beautiful.”

Hadley refused to write that sentence, so Harper came up with something else.

“God watches over you.”

Because, if you can’t talk about how beautiful you are, talk about God.

After Hadley wrote to Cinderella for Harper, she decided to write Aurora.  Who is Aurora?  I don’t remember her growing up.  I remember Cinderella, and Snow White, but who’s Aurora? Is she one of Scarlet O’Hara’s friends?

Turns out, Hadley needed helped spelling Aurora’s name.  Lucky for us, we have a book with ALL the princesses so Hadley looked her up in that glittery encyclopedia.  Aurura’s name was written in cursive and this was difficult for Hadley to read so she asked Harper for help.

“Hadley, I can’t read that because it’s written in beautiful.”

I might BE beautiful, dear eldest sister, but I don’t read it.

Here’s Hadley’s letter:

My favorite part of this letter is the bottom three stickers and Hadley’s words, “Here are some of your friends.”

The letters are in envelopes, sealed, and ready to be sent.

“Where do the princesses live?” Harper asks.

“Disney World,” Hadley tells her.

So I guess when I graduate I know where I’ll be going.

That is so great! They crack me up! Maybe if Harper would have said “You and Hadley and I are so beautiful.” Hadley would have written it. Poor dinosaurs, I feel bad for them. They can come live with Joshua. No princesses here. 🙂

Hadley would’ve definitely written it if Harper had included her in on the beauty.
When you guys come to visit, I’ll have all the dinosaurs ready for Joshua. We have A LOT!

It is too bad kids aren’t learning to write in beautiful. I blame those damn ipads. People’s handwriting is going down the toilet thanks to those. Now let me just write another blog post real quick….

These notes are precious. I love the line, “God watches over you.” A little bit of the unexpected tossed into a conversation about princesses.

When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth k When I was in fourth grade, I got my front tooth knock out during a baseball game. I was in the dugout, trying to make a butterfly in the dirt with my shoe. The batter, who’d hit not just a home run, but a grand slam, came running in and everyone cheered and so did I because I’d gotten really good at reading cues for when a good thing happens in sports. I even attempted a high five, and somehow I knocked my face into her batting helmet, thus spending the good part of that weekend summer day in the dentist’s office getting a root canal.

No teeth were lost in this latest incident, but I was lost in a bit of imagining on Sunday when I tripped and fell on Packard while running. I look like I’ve been in a bar fight and my shoulder looks similar to how Wesley’s looked after being attacked by an ROUS.

But I’m going into work today, and when I told my boss I’m nervous about how I look she said, “It’s OK because you have a story,” and if that isn’t the best thing you could ever say to me, I’m not sure what is.

So, here I am with a story. Thanks to all my friends and family who’ve been so kind and keeping me laughing.
