It’s been hot here in DC lately. The other day, Hadley and Harper wanted to go outside around the late afternoon hour, otherwise known as the hour when we sweat our weight and cook eggs on the sidewalk. They wanted to walk to Dunkin Donuts. I LOVE donuts – I could happily eat one or ten every day – but when it’s this hot a donut does not sound good. But we went outside and sat on our steps thinking of something to do or somewhere to go.
“How ’bout the park?” Hadley suggested.
“We can go to the park in our complex but I can’t put you in the car because the carseats are too hot.”
“How ’bout the ice-cream shop?” Harper asked.
“Too far.”
We decided to walk to the grocery store behind our complex to get popsicles.
On our way, we found a hopscotch. We don’t pass a hopscotch and not have a go at it.
Nothing says relief from hot weather like throwing your body on the ice cream freezer.
Popsicles in the shape of crayons or drumsticks? This is a tough decision on a hot summer afternoon.
We decided to get both.
On the way home, we found this guy:
He offered to hold our bag while we ate our treats, which was nice since we were pretty worn out from all that ice-cream and hopscotching.
Hanging out is hard work.

This is such a cute post! Can’t wait for it to cool down a bit…or a lot!!!! : )
calliefeyen says
I agree, Erin. It needs to cool down A LOT!
Jennifer says
That guy should be eating a popsicle – he is dressed too warmly and he is carrying the loot. 🙂
calliefeyen says
I know! Poor guy.
alison says
dude. i’m with hadley–drumsticks. all day, every day.
calliefeyen says
Harper agrees. On the walk home she ate both a popsicle AND a drumstick.
